When I lived in China one of my mates Matt was the chef at the Holiday Inn steak restaurant. A mate and I went for dinner and Matt cooked Australian style hamburgers for us. A couple of Americans saw what we got and came over and asked where it was on the menu. We explained the situation and Matt came out and agreed that he would cook them for the two Americans the next day (they had already ordered from the menu). the feedback was entirely positive.

When I was in China I complained to one of the Americans about the taste of their chocolate. He said they need to be different to cope with the heat in America. I pointed out that Australia gets hot as does China. Hmm was his reaction.

Youtube have to get used to the idea that they are International and that we have different ideas and morals to the USA. Some of the problem are caused because machines are involved not humans - an instance is when British people tried to register their address in Scunthorpe and the machine picked up that the four letter word was contained in the legitimate place name.

When I lived in China I went with my secretary Mei to the hairdressers. The guy was standing behind me but doing nothing. I asked Mei what was the problem and the guy told her he had never cut hair that wasn't black. I got her to tell him to not worry even if he made a mistake it would grow out in a couple of weeks.

the other thing I can't understand is why registration plates are not compulsory on the front of all cars/trucks.

The main difference I found is that you can watch the sun set in to the horizon instead of in to smog.

@badpossum440 I am 70 today and I have had ate least 200 burned off and ten removed by theatre operations - it doesn't affect everyone but it certainly does exist.
23
i think the difference is that a 'way out' takes you to an 'exit' and the 'exit' is where you can actually leave the building.

Women in bars was new to a lot of people. Many years later there was a really bad storm and a woman was sheltering in the doorway of the pub. I got her to come in to the bar and arranged a cup of tea for her. She was surprised at how civilised it was.

Georgia is good example of why you need to say the country you are from. If you said you are from Georgia most Americans (and probably other countries too) would not know that Georgia is a country itself as well as having a US State by the same name.
19
and he will too!
18
Also completely missed the Torana.

Expensive realestate in Australia depends a lot on location. Sydney harbourside would get my vote as the most expensive followed by the Toorak/South Yarra in Melbourne. The prices for houses have risen beyond the joke though. Land value is often what they sell for if the house can be knocked over and replaced by a couple of units - developers are really busy.

Really this is not much different from the old days of pigs having worms and passing them to humans because of incomplete cooking.
13
This isn't a barn find at all. It is where a collector keeps his cars.
12
That worm is a toy one. We also have the Gippsland Earthworm (Megascolides australis) which average a metre in length and can grow to 3 metres. They are found in Victoria

I love how these old trucks are in such good condition that they don't blow black smoke!
12
i am not sure whether I have previously told you but my nephew took his son in to store that sold these collectable models and his son pointed to one and said that it is same as your dad. The guy asked how he had managed to get the model before him as he believed he had the first ones. My nephew says no i don;t have the model - I have the actual car!. the guy freaked. That car has since been sold to an Australian living in America.

Cow catcher is more often called a Roo-bar here in Australia. The reason for so many unmade roads is flooding - it makes it uneconomic to pave a lot of roads.
11
It is mainly for the central business district as in the suburbs you have wider streets and dedicated right turn lanes with arrows.
11
@caw25sha There are a lot in Australia too. My nephew has an Aveling & Porter roller called Penane.
11
@stanislavczebinski994 i would describe it as arrogant rather ignorant.
10
Most of those trucks on the bull catching videos were Toyota Landrcuiser troop carriers.
9
Yep a red belly will slither over you feet to get away from you unless you have cornered it and it feels threatened.
9
In Australia the ones that aren't street legal can get a special permit which allows them to be driven on the road for a specific time.
9
@jayweb51 yes Ina the USA everyone sits on their fanny but in the UK and Aus only half the population does.
9
Really it is not hard. You just wait for the green light to be on in the street you are turning in to. It is no harder than waiting for a green arrow at a traffic light.
8
People used to buy a house for security now they treat them as an investment.
8
@johnnyrosenberg9522 Local laws may be the reason The UK specifies that chocalte must contain 25% cacoa mass but the USA has a minimum of 10%.
8
gee that Torana box is a very generous gift!
8
a mate of mine had an HQ panel van with a 308 and four wheel discs - it was a great cruising vehicle. he called it his virgin conversion unit.
8
When is he going to rename 'the President" as "the Dictator"
7
I live by myself in Dandenong, which is a suburb of Melbourne, and I spend less than $80 per week on food which includes two nights of take-away. I do shop carefully and are happy to buy bulk and freeze products if that makes it more economic.
7
@GunnarMiller yeah I have heard all the bulldust reasons before and you are right it is almost as bad a reaction as advocating gun control/
7
In most recipes that use Golden syrup you could use treacle. I was surprised that when Ilived in China in the 2004-2009 I could buy golden syrup at the supermarket.
7
When i worked in Shenzhen China a mate ran a nightclub so one night I took in couple of DVDs for an Australian music night. The crowd loved it and a few of the Americans were blown away especially the ones who happened to be musicians.
7
maybe Australia should call the AFL and NRL grand finals the world championships.
7
When i worked in China I had a Kiwi visitor who was staying at a major hotel chain in Shunde city (part of Foshan, Guangdong). I offered to take him for a local meal and he was so happy as he was sick of the hotel menu. We had a great night eating Chinese cuisine so the next night we tried a local Japanese restaurant and the girls freaked as they thought we would not be able to order things. I knew enough to get us some beers and then rang my girlfriend who told the girls what we wanted. It so great to try different cuisines no matter where you find them.
7
That is a seriously generous gift box. the $1 you held up would be worth over $5.
7
i can remember a flight in China where it was -7C when we took off and 34C when we landed. Everyone ran to the toilets to take off their thermals.
7
the problem is they require knowledge of, and adherence to the law and a degree of co-operation. In Victoria the only vehicles approaching a roadabout that you have to give way to are trams and emergency vehicles with alarms active, otherwise its just vehicle already in the roundabout on your right.

My nephew has a 911GT2RS which he drives on the road to track days. It is not gutted out like a race car but it does have performance far in excess of what you can use legally on roads. It sounds delightful coming up my driveway.
6
the Monaro colour is called Mandarin Red.
6
another good Youtube series for you and your family to look at is "One pack Wanderers" which has a couple doing a circuit of Australia - they are so good that Mazda gave them a ute to use and then a car for Tasmania.

many years ago (late 1970's) I helped out on a massage control on the Sunraysia Desert Rally when it was run in the Hattah National Park. There was a problem with a motorcycle that hadn't turned up at our checkpoint so we went out to find it. It took a while but we finally found the bike and then we couldn't find the rider immediately. We found him wedged in to a bush and we didn't dare move him after we ascertained that he was alive. We got specialists to come and recover him and he was not too bad as it turned out. A very eventful day.

Even here in Australia we have people who don't think before asking questions. I had an Afro-American boss here at one stage but he had a few friends who were West Indian. the number of times I heard people ask the West Indians which part of the States they were from was amazing especially considering their accents.
6
I can't see why you would bother to take the plug out when you can use the switch to disconnect. That was great presentation by both parties. Well explained and thoughtful questions.
6
I expect they wouldn't know that each State has its own constitution either.
6
i can remember seeing Rick Springfield playing in Zoot when I was still at school in 1971 .
6
I really like your videos and your attitude to things especially about Australia.
