  1. I think you hold the clutch pedal down too long but that is probably just due to you explaining things. In an emergency you can ignore the clutch and just pull the gear lever in to neutral and brake at the same time. This is not to be done in normal driving but it is useful to know that you can. If I am just braking to slow down a little -like when you get to road works then I just left foot brake. I know some people can't cope with left foot braking but I usually drive an auto and do it all the time. If more people did this then there would be less accidents from people pressing the wrong pedal with their right foot and ending up on the footpath.
