Just put the prices up and put a sticker on the windscreen explaining it.

@FlyingFun. I do it the way they do it in China YYYYMMDD

Chinese don't use trailers or such. I never saw a single trailer in five years living there. I would expect that they have built strengthening in to the platform to allow for a tow bar because it not something they are at all familiar with

Why fingers crossed - are you happy to put the burden of road maintenance on to those of us who drive ICE cars alone? If it gets defeated then maybe the government will bring in a requirement for a yearly electrical safety test on EVs.

@gj1234567899999 it depends on what the chip is doing. The technology is different for different types of chips but they all require heaps of water. Intels US plant used to use around 4.8million gallons a day. That is a serious amount of water. At 8.34 pounds per gallon this means they were using nearly 18000 ton of water a day.

"Black market" it is "the market" not the black market for most semiconductors - they have all gone up in price (up to 500%).

I can't see a single reason why electric vehicles shouldn't contribute to the upkeep of our roads. Even motorbikes do through their fuel. If people are putting off getting an electric vehicle due to an EV tax then I am dismayed.

Havinjg the rego revoked is not much different to having an unroadworthy notice on your car.

and so they should charge them a tax. I pay a tax to use my petrol/gas powered on the road through the cost of my fuel so why shouldn't electric cars. I don't really care how it is done but it seems fairer to bases it on kilometres traveled rather than just imposing a set rate on top of registration. Truck drivers have to keep a log book so that's not new. I will contribute to whoever takes it back to court if the electric car people win. Eventually countries will have to tax electric vehicles both for roads and the cost of disposing of the batteries.

I doubt the tariffs will much effect. If the Chinese refuse to send things to the US then 200% of 0 is no different to 100% of 0 ie 0

The biggest problem is that this will affect a lot of unrelated products - even used cars will go up in price but it will be interesting to see whether cars with a lot of electronics in them are avoided.

I would be happy with similar if they wanted to bring it in for all vehicle in Victoria.

In Australia a house costs $700,000 so how is a chip costing $500 any different.

SAIC are in JVs with GM as well.

@icosthop9998 Does paying a tax on petrol that goes towards road upkeep stop people from buying petrol or diesel cars? If not then what is the problem.
