Australia uses sugar cane and wheat starch for our ethanol.

yep you are right. I run E10 (94RON) in a 6 cylinder Australian ford falcon which also runs on LPG. I get about 8% less kilometers less than I get running our standard unleaded (91RON). The car runs a little better on E10 though. What i do is i start the car from cold on petrol and when the motor warms up I switch to LPG. which gives about 20% worse economy but costs 55% of the cost of E10. nothing is easy these days but with what is going on in the Ukraine I am glad I have dual fuel. E10 cost me $1.61/litre 91 cost me 1.90/litre and LPG cost me 0.869/litre. I just looked online and already most outlets are selling E10 at $1.95/litre

@baobo67 If you want a great in line six you only need to look at a Ford Australia Barra engine. Pity they aren't made any more. I have a Ford Falcon Fairmont wagon that has 4.0L i6 and it is a smooth motor.

@IDontWantAHandle101 I think that any English car enthusiast should contact the owners clubs for their vehicle in either Australia or New Zealand. They will have gone through years ago and will know the tricks and traps.

@shawn13mertle13 I remember changing the alternator on my 116 280SE (which was an in line M110 3.0 L six). The easiest way I found was to remove the battery tray as i didn't have a hoist. I did have a look at a 450SE 6.9 and that really is shoehorning an engine in.

@baronvonlimbourgh1716 More like not suited for vehicles with older type fuel lines. My car is a 1999 Ford falcon Wagon and it runs on E10, LPG or E91(91RON) unleaded fuel. The fuel system was made to cope with all three types of fuel. You don't want to leave E10 sitting in your tank though as you can get sludge forming (not sure why it does it but it has hapnened to two friends who had the sedan version of my car and left them for 12 months.

@midnitesquirldog1 Yes your advice re carburetored vehicles is sound. It depends on what market your car was built for as well but the owners manual may tell you if you can run E10. The manufacturers websites are also good for info.

@midnitesquirldog1 my 1999 car is compatible but it was Australian produced.

@midnitesquirldog1 power is a different thing. E10 in Australia is 94 RON where normal unleaded is 91RON so E10 is actually more powerful but gives more l/100k.

@jasonmefford4312 his advice re lawn mowers is consistent with what we are told here in Australia where we have had E10 for 20 years.

@midnitesquirldog1 my 360,000k Falcon might argue with you on that.
