Well i guess the European auto manufacturers could close their US factories. If China buys VW then this will probably happen anyway.

I wonder how this will affect Boeing Commercial seeing that all Boeing passenger planes have parts made in China.

So he wants Americans to pay more to punish the EU.

China can simply put its prices up but I don't expect them to. They may invoke tariffs on any goods imported from the USA but they would more likely ban the import if they can get the same item from another country.

Which imagined enemy does Canada need protecting from?
3
@Dutchie-r2s They have been making parts there for years. The Chinese would definitely make sure that those parts are right so they don't embarrass themselves ahead of their own C919 project. You guys have to realise that quality problems with Chinese products are usually due to enforced cost reductions from buyers (at least that is what I found when I worked in China as we didn't have automatic cost downs - we only varied pricing when there was a marked change in raw material cost and that could go either way)

the crazy thing with the chicken tax is that affected vehicles that are no longer made in the USA and the manufacturers are US owned.
3
yeah Make America America Again.
2
@CryptoRenegade-x3o the problem with his plan is that a 200% tariff on zero gives the same result as 0% tariff on zero. the Chinese refuse to export then all he has achieved is a shortage of goods - that may fix inflation if there is less available to buy.
2
@Aes_Saru Australia is very happy to not share a border with the USA.
2
Why do you show a CNY100 note when tariffs will be paid in USD?
2
just think American companies are going to have to pay full price for shipping containers.
2
I doubt whether Boeing will be able to complete aircraft in any hurry due to their diverse sources of supply. Even with second sources of supply the second source has to have the spare capacity.
2
Its about time Kaliningrad got properly isolated too.
1
if i was Chinese I would be increasing prices where they are the major source of supply.
1
@ well if you ask the people who gave him that mandate they might say -that isn't what we expected.
1
I guess you will enjoy having a FElon as your leader.
1
I am glad that our Australian PM has resisted invoking tariffs on US products. he doesn't need to - a lot of us have stopped buying them where possible. The USA is only 10-15% of our aluminium/steel exports anyway so we should be able to find other markets.
1
@CryptoRenegade-x3o yeah but will take time to replace existing supply chains and quality may suffer and prices rise but no one can be certain.
1
Counter MAGA with BABA - Buy Anything But American.
1
I wonder how many Americans know they will paying tariffs even on small value imports - they used to be duty and tariff free under USD800. I expect the clearing process will delay their shipments to and add a clearance cost.
1
Canada should tell the USA that to become the 51st State they would insist on the reversal of the Second Amendment to the US Constitution - the reaction would be priceless..
1
So isn't crypto a dedollarization?
1
@Maromarix I call him FElon Trump.
1
@canadianbakin1304 yes i think the tariffs issue is a blind for something else but I unless it is a FTA I have no idea what it might be.
1
@ They are so random I haven't had to deal in one this century!
1
I'd let him set 100% tariffs and just not deal with the USA.
1
@MattSmith-pf5di It might not be for long but with the export of your 'illegal' workers who is going to make this stuff.
1
I bet the fentanyl doesn't come in legally so tariffs won't affect them.
1
@punkagrrlzero I do as it prolongs the misconception that China pays the tariffs.
1
Trump talks but Xi does.
1
an extra 244,000 kilometres of coastline would make defence easier - what planet is that man on.
1
@ because tariffs are paid at the point of import by the importer so it will be USD paying the tariff. It will affect the EU as their sales to the US will drop but they will find other markets.

gallium is also used in some very humble items - LEDs for instance.
