Well, this is concerning for European unity since France & Germany are the most influential members of the EU. I do not believe it is as great a threat to NATO unity though because France has always had disagreements with a US-led alliance.

I feel like disagreements between the two most powerful EU member states are healthy. The timing just isn't that reassuring.

FR.

Interesting. Seems like Scholz is juggling more than I thought.

I feel like whenever Germany gets into a dispute with another European nation, everyone just blames it with prejudice. I mean remembering history is important, but the reality is much more nuanced than that.

Very well-put.

Macron's defense plan is uneconomical. It would also take way too long and be far too difficult to reform all European military industrial complexes. I am more receptive to Brussels' energy plan as smaller nations also deserve a bit of equity, even if it is unprecedented.

1) Italy, currently, is as far right as a democratic-seeming Mussolini. 2) Poland's just utilizing its newfound political clout. 3) Norway is valid though.
6
Biased because France also unilaterally canceled Germany's energy plans with Iberia. Neither Germany nor France aren't being team players.
6
A very hard job that everyone (especially non-Germans) takes for granted.
5
@laurentdrozin812 Actually, it wasn't. Many Germans felt that deeper economic relations with the Russian Federation would lead to peace & stability in Central & Eastern Europe. This was the same thing France and Germany did after WW2 with the ECSC. That wasn't for purely economic reasons either.

As an American, I think you aren't seeing things objectively. (Just an opinion; don't shoot!)
4
Like CGP Grey said, "France is the 'queen of not letting go' ".
4
@stixinst5791 LMFAO. Iran!? Really? That's the example you want to use? SMH.
4
NATO without the US is a weaker, more costly NATO.
3
This is just outright hate. Reminds me of Margaret Thatcher's stance on German reunification, but at least she had some legitimate concerns.
3
@flavio1243 I know right. Ridiculous how much hate one can have.
3
Interdependence is at the bedrock of modern peace and stability doctrine. Can't really blame Germany, but you can blame Russia.
3
You seem like a well-research and objective man.
2
@thulyblu5486 I love your sarcasm.
2
@hkchan1339 Only sense it makes is by making the French Military Industrial Complex richer. (They hold huge influence over European defense). This of course does not have Europe's interest at heart. Also, US is just better at fighting wars and making/exporting weapons than France.
2
@TheVaryox Thank argument is incredibly weak. Plus, using fighter jets, for example, making more French Rafaeles is much more expensive than importing American F-35s. And the F-35 is the most powerful and technologically advanced on the planet.
2
Since you stated your opinion, here is mine: Merkel was one of the best leaders of 21st-century European politics. And Scholz is doing a great job of adapting to an evolving Germany.
1
1) Zelenskyy is a Jewish Ukrainian. 2) Your Putin d-riding is showing. 3) This comment has nothing to do with the video.

Chill
1
The German public is psychologically disapproving of it because of Fukushima Incident and other smaller meltdowns/close calls.
1
Which is why I think this beef is healthy. Just poor timing.
1
Actually they never "fell in" in the pre-world wars era or even in the inter-war period.
1
@fabiolus0832 Oh. Whoops. Many people are saying this and meaning it.
1
@laurentdrozin812 Although the last point you made (sadly) has a fair point.
1
Calmed down fearmonger. The end is not nigh.
1
Yeah. That just seemed petty.
