  2. Americans always harp on Europeans needing to reform their defense spending and industries. But that doesn't mean to hell with NATO and non-European democratic allies.

  4. There's nothing problematic with EU strategic autonomy. What's problematic is Macron's rhetoric that is meant to put him as the big leader of Europe. He constantly implies that (his version of) strategic autonomy can only be achieved by distancing Canada, the US, & core NATO allies. As if his political ideology is the only path forward for European security. The part that especially bothers me is Macron's willingness to achieve this by flirting with autocrats.
