Yeah. It's the Israeli Lobby. They are powerful (but not invincible). There is also the fact that many American voters think that holding Israel accountable in any way is "anti-semitic".

Great video. The people that keep saying China's economy will collapse remind me of the people that always say that the Dollar will collapse.
25
In a less severe way, China's demographics might also experience Japan's "Lost Generation"/"Lost Decades" that started in the 90s. This happened as a realization that Japan wasn't going to surpass the US's GDP settled, and the Japanese economy entered a period of reaching a peak, then plateauing* relative to expectations. Although, China still has a higher peak to reach before leveling out and the CCP has Japan's past to learn from.

Yeah. The writer really undersold FrancAfrique. The only European power that still has an empire is France.
23
The opposition coalition once again messes up their chances by their own choices. How many elections is that now? Fumbling the ball must be their special talent.
22
That's exactly what I'm saying. France isn't learning the lesson.

This comment is extremely minimalist and ignorant of the already brewing geopolitical tensions. Kenya & Uganda are already very strained because of the refugees fleeing the Ethiopian Government in masses. Same thing with Sudan + an intense and hot border conflict. Egypt is already on the verge of becoming a failed state -- and Ethiopia is already a failed state.

The American Government is this close to bringing up the times when France was getting invaded by authoritarian powers and their only hope was US military involvement.

As a Tigrayan, I thank you for covering this topic. Since the War in Ukraine began and the world started to destabilize, the interstate War in the Horn of Africa with Ethiopia at its center has been relegated to the side. This diminished the mounting international pressure put on the Addis Ababa regime; thus the Crimes against Humanity and the humanitarian crisis persists.
10
Speaking of Belgium, especially Leopold specifically.

When y'all said that US content will be moved to TLDR News Global, I did not expect a new US-related video so soon. I am here for it! Also, if this is to be a model of what to expect on the Global channel, I think the US-related videos will attract more views than on TLDR News US. This is because these Global videos regarding America tend to be framed internationally in relation to other great power -- meaning bigger audiences.

@georgedevries3992 Something tells me that you don't even know what 'Appeasement' means.

A pretty dickish move is restricting access to water for nations that are located in the Sahara, while Ethiopia is located in the Sahel.
7
WTF? Don't blame bloomers for advancements in medical sciences. Instead, elect younger politicians into offices, like what the gen z voters did in the 2022 Midterms.
7
@JerehmiaBoaz The French Monarchy, you mean. Cus neither the French Republic nor Napoleon Empire did that.
6
LOL but it pretty much summarizes the relationship.

Not gonna lie, this secret agreement surprisingly sounds too good to be true. Some sanctions have to be lifted but that was always part of any deal/agreement. In exchange, the US gets IAEA inspections, security assurances, non-proliferation guarantees, and even an end to arms sales to Russia. But, if the worth of this agreement was measured by Iran's credibility, then it wouldn't go very far (not like the polarized US can talk, tho).

@ottawadev Whatever your opinions may be, the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church is still involved with politics, which isn't healthy for democracy. Also, many of the head bishops & prominent priests have already gone on the air, in front of millions, and parroted Abiy's anti-Tegaru rhetoric. Although, I'm not denying that the government has its hands in the church, which is also not great for democracy.

Luckily, the leaders of NATO, Turkey, Finland, & Sweden understand this and are acting calmly while balancing the interests of all three sides. However, Sweden does want the middle ground, in fact, they have reached many of the concessions demanded by Turkey. The biggest concession Sweden could not make was violating their Supreme Court's decisions (the executive & legislative branches literally can't because of the Constitution). And the biggest reason Erdogan doesn't want to meet in the middle is that he wants his fighter jets and he wants to win the upcoming elections in the summer.

The irony of the job market.

That's for the breath of objectivity.

Sure...

In 2020, the Tigray population was a little over 6 Million people.* According to Amnesty, the casualties were 800,000 people* with millions more injured/starving/forcefully displaced.*

EPRDF is not a proxy of TPLF. The EPRDF was the only democratic institution in Ethiopian history. It served as a multi-ethnic coalition. TPLF only managed to stay dominant because they kept winning elections. The Ethio-Eritrea War was not a proxy war. It was a total war waged by Isayas against the Ethiopian democratic coalition. TPLF was so invested in the war because Eritrea borders Tigray and Afar, so most of the fighting directly affected their regional constituents.

It's about societal brotherhood. Realistically, I don't get it. But it's important for the Finnish & Swedish people, so I can respect it. Besides, also realistically, it's not like Russia will invade/nuke Finland anytime soon.

There are going to be a lot of Water Wars in the 21st century.
2
At this rate, there might not be a Palestine in 50 years. This may be a two-sided conflict but only one is committing genocide while snuffing its judicial branch.
2
Wasn't the US much more militarily and technologically superior than the Taliban??? You should pick up the book Art of War.
2
@echidnanatsuki882 Looks at the user handle & pfp Ah. I see you are a man of culture, as well.
2
One of the worst things about Ethiopian politics is how entangled the church is with the state.
2
The Taliban promised a lot of things during negotiations w/ the US & when they came to power. None of them kept. Anyone who trusted them was a damn fool. (Ngl tho, the Taliban really are politicians now. They are making campaign promises and then breaking them.)💀
2
@ronaldmcboggled9855 It's like Christians fighting other Christians; ie: Catholics & Protestants, or Evangelicals & Mormons. Honestly, people use religious differences as an excuse to treat someone else differently.
2
Obligatory comment: Trump broke yet another American deal because it was "too soft". But since he had no alternative solutions, Iran was able to do whatever it wanted with limited military engagements being the only consequence. Instead, Trumpism locked US and Iran in a ladder of escalation that only ended just shy of starting WW3 (thank God Iran chose to blink after the hit on Soleimani).
2
@HumanMediaPhile When referring to non-democracies, that's obvious.
2
No seriously.💀 Even most of the B&R Initiative's international investment is in construction/infrastructure.
2
Nah, shit. But Turkey has a problem with Sweden, not Finland. And Hungary doesn't have as much influence as Turkey. Ask stupid questions, and you get blatant answers.
2
I'm still hoping for the future.
2
Amen.
2
Don't forget about Addis's "Shewa Imperialism" which is at the core of power centralization in Ethiopia.
2
HORRIBLE. That plan of yours has a million holes in it.
2
@bigboyrambo2009 Amen to that. This guy MUST BE sipping on something stronger than absinthe.
2
The lesson: It doesn't matter if you are America, its biggest strategic ally, or Russia, its biggest energy ally, DON'T TRUST SAUDI ARABIA. MBS will just try to screw you as publically as possible for short-term opportunities. The Sauds are one of the least reliable Middle Eastern partners for any greater power. China is probably going to be the next nation to have to figure that out the hard way.
2
Exactly. That didn't feel very neutral of TLDR News, so I was surprised.
2
@CaptainOfTheCrapShak Sure. Call me whatever. But Ethiopia IS a failing state that is barely managing to make peace in the north. But now Addis has to worry about peacetime governance like the economy & promised reforms. And even the war in the south and west of Oromia. This is something Abiy's regime has shown they are poor at. So my statement still stands.
2
Oddly,.... yeah.
2
Well said
2
I agree. Especially because the Prize, in Abiy's case, only further legitimizes an illegitimate rule.
2
The first to collapse? You must be new to African Geopolitics. I agree with the second line tho.
2
Wow. The second line is much more powerful than you may have realized. Then again, it may not take that much time, tho.
