  2. As an African who grew up in post-Apartheid & post-Derg Africa, South Africa's (and Africa as a whole) messy gradual decline has been a tragedy that has eaten at me. I grew up in a time when South Africa hosted the World Cup, (flawed) democracy still existed in places like Ethiopia, and economic development was exponential. Now Africa is suffering from stagnation, democratic backsliding, coups, civil war, and a rise in neocolonialism. I hope the future gets better for South Africa in the long term.
