  1. One thing I want to add is the fact that the Lebanese state cannot afford to get involved in a war, normalization or not. The people of Lebanon, most of all, don't want anything else to make their lives harder. And while Hezbollah has political influence in the country, even Hezbollah doesn't want to rock the boat too much. Despite being allied with Hamas, Hezbollah's colossal arsenal is only a threat if it is not expended. Similarly, the daddy of the proxies, Iran, does not want to go up against the US military in a direct engagement. And, that's Middle Eastern realpolitik for you.

  2. Egypt wants Hamas dealt with. Egypt also wants to not deal with a refugee crisis of biblical proportions. Egypt is walking on a tightrope that it really doesn't want to rock.
