During "peace" time, he was not the ideal president the country needed. But to witness a person's true nature, you have to see them backed against a wall with everything they love to lose. For Zelenksyy, it wasn't his seat of power or his selfish need to flee, what he loved were the people he swore to lead and what the presidency symbolized for the country + democracy in Eastern Europe.
