  2. Well that makes sense because Lincoln and the Whigs/Republicans never wanted war or even to force a nationwide abolition. To them, preserving the Union mattered above all else.

  3. As an immigrant who got citizenship and didn't immediately sell out, it's a really chilling phenomenon. So many of the people I used to know are like this. Why bother coming all the way here if they don't want a healthy, functional country?
