It's hard to state "The US conducted an airstrike" when it was Trump who commenced it, alone. Without the mandatory permission from Congress needed for an act of war/assassination. He also ignored his cabinet and military advisors, then giving them a gag order to hide the operation from Congress and the public. In fact, as a result of this, Congress used its check-and-balance ability and worked to reduce the power and influence of the POTUS position for every executive after Trump.

@Mike signs It called checks and balances. Sure, if it wasn't a high-profile assassination, then maybe it wouldn't be a problem. But deliberately killing a foreign leader of a hostile state is an act of war. Acts of war need to be democratically approved by Congress, but Trump ignored both the Legislative branch and fellow advisors in the Executive branch.

@Mike signs No one can get away from American aircraft on this Earth. Also, as brash as Trump's decision was, the military commanders purposefully chose to strike the late general outside of Iranian soil -- in Baghdad. Either way, he was exposed and target-- not like he is hard to find -- meaning the entire assassination was subject to the whim of the former pres's preference.
