  5. One thing that has been indirectly invaluable in supporting the Ukrainian war effort is Texan energy. While Texas couldn't do it alone, its ability to supply the lion's share of American energy exports was crucial in the US replacing Russia. Alaska, the West Coast, & the East Coast combined could not have come close to doing the job without Texas. But, unfortunately, since the US and the West couldn't handle all the demands themselves, we once again started relying on the Middle East. This is problematic especially because most of the Middle Eastern energy exporters are OPEC and led by Saudi Arabia (who got mad at Pres. Biden for calling them out on their human rights record). There's Qatar, which quit OPEC, but that is conditional on not calling them out on their human rights abuses (ie: World Cup). Similar story to most other energy exporters, from Azerbaijan to Venezuela.

"NeoOttomanism" as a concept to describe a new empire centered in Turkey is unrealistic and imprecise. A better description: Turkey's geopolitical ambition is to leverage its strategic positioning between Europe, Asia, and Africa to project power as a nation-state, not as an empire. A feasible but hard ambition to achieve. So an alt title can be: "How Turkey is Rising as a Great Power"

Kraut does have very interesting biases that make it great for subjective videos. But he often also put his bias aside to make objective content (ie: Turkey videos).

While the Young Turks were busy slaughtering Ottoman Armenians in the Northeast, Mustafa Kemal Attaturk was busy successfully fighting off the Entente's invasion campaign in Gallipoli. So in the eyes of the formerly Ottoman people, Attaturk was a war hero and the Young Turks were monsters. The video also doesn't mention that Turkey as a nation-state wouldn't exist without Attaturk. You can't talk about the history of Turkey without mentioning the Father of the Turks.

  195. Friendly reminder: People should never be conflated with their groups that lead them. Before the Oct 7 attacks, Hamas was growing increasingly unpopular with Gazans. In the West Bank, Palestinians are not happy with Fatah's faults. Similarly, for the Israeli people, the anger and resentment the citizens have been feeling towards Netanyahu's Government is undeniable. Many Israelis hate Bibi just as much as they hate Hamas. And the IDF and Mossad are also disliked. Mossad is seen as a failure, and the cry "Where is the Army?" is seared into the minds of many Israelis. Even now, as the IDF bombards and invades Gaza, most Israelis are dissatisfied with the military response. They understand that the response is endangering the hostages, radicalizing Gaza, and is ultimately a distraction from the Government's failures. TLDR: No group of people in Israel/Palestine is content or well-represented by their respective governing bodies.
