I was surprised that the Spanish America decolonization section did not have any mention of the 'Libertador' Simón Bolívar, not even during the Gran Colombia part.

@HistoryScope Understandable. Tho, imo I would argue that history is driven by people. Empires are made/run by people. Wars are fought by people. So, I humbly believe people should be accounted for in historical accounts (objectively & without idolization, ofc). All of this is just my opinion, of course. There are many schools of history.

@greentraveler4114 Did the CCP troll farm dispatch you?

@drewmqn The status quo is an independent Taiwan already. Why should Taiwan declare independence when it already is?

It IS rich in GDP/capita. Taiwan had a GDP per capita of $35,513 in 2022, compared to $22,012 a decade earlier. In 2023, Taiwan had the 12th most powerful PPP in the world at $74,066. On the other hand, Japan's GDP per capita is stunted because Japanese economic growth has stagnated for more than a deace now. While, Taiwan's trajectory is well on the path to catching up to America's GDP per capita.

@hatinmyselfiscool2879 I love Taiwan's democracy. I also love how Taiwan values Chinese Culture, while crafting their own Taiwanese identity. As opposed to the self hatred Mao instilled within China through the cultural revolution. I could go on...

There was one more thing. The US's interest to get just one* more market to sell its goods to at the advantage of American corporations; the defining trait of American imperialism (ie: Banana Wars). That's why they were the first to succeed in making Japan open up. The new companies that were being founded under the Meiji Restoration only thrived by dealing with these American business interests.

2:20 Wait-- The Seven Years War was what? Can we get a video on just the Seven Years War, please? I'm American and was only taught that the war occured on the North American continent. Now I am finding out it was the first true global war fought on FIVE continents. I would love to learn more on that.

On the other hand, since the Lost Decades are tragically still lingering, the Japanese government (even in Abe's last years in office) started encouraging more immigration of highly skilled, college-educated foreigners. This was a slow process so as not to upset the general tone of voters, but it was gradually ramping up... that is until.... On the other other hand, Japan is right back to closed borders due to the Covid Pandemic. Japanese Society once again changed. Although the government still does try to open the borders for a few months at a time when it can. Yet, the most notoriously unpopular example of this is during the 2021 Summer Olympics.

Except in a way that doesn't completely screw over the workers, like is all too often.

Special mention that wasn't addressed: Now, Japan's abortion laws are considered one of the more progressive in the world. Abortion is legal for up to 22 months or 5 1/2 months (more than half the average pregnancy). Although, it isn't full-legalization because it's only available for women who would endure economic hardships, if the pregnancy causes health risks to the mother/baby, or if the pregnancy was due to rape. But, as an American living in a post-Roe society, I am jealous of Japan. Now the major caveat here is that there is discrimination between married and unmarried women. Married women need consent from their spouse/partner. Although, adding some nuance, the courts only allow this exception if the marriage is healthy and not abusive.

Canada is fully independent. The Head of Government is the head of the entire nation. With the Canadian "Head of State" being ceremonial. Canada's closest real ties to the UK is the Commonwealth of Nations.

More Gen-Z & Gen-Alpha Americans would be more religious if churches weren't so politically against them. More than ever, "God" or "the Bible" is being increasingly used by politicians to spread islamophobia, pass anti-queer legislation, ban reproductive rights, and as a tool in their supposed "culture wars". All while megachurches exploit the situation. And while smaller, local churches and religious communities are great, they aren't as easily accessible as commercialized religion. But hey, at least the Roman Catholic Church is trying to be more "woke" now.

I appreciate the honesty of this video too.

Also, the reason you can't make a long video on the History of Male Reproductive Rights is that all of the burden of reproductive responsibility is placed on females -- even though reproduction takes more than one sex. Therefore, not enough public attention or political will is given to reproductive options for men, nor enough scientific interest to make the necessary bio-chem breakthroughs. In the end, the only options for birth control that men can choose from are condoms or getting a vasectomy.....

Great video. It goes very in-depth.

Well said.

What's the point of being sentenced to life if your going to be paroled after less than 10 years? Most of these sentences should have been LWOP. The worst/weakest aspect of the Tokyo Trials was the reintegration into society. After a few years in prison, most of these inhumane war criminals were paroled and able to do whatever they want regardless of how it made the victims feel.

Every country needs this law

Russia isn't rich but Vladimir Putin is a de facto trillionaire. Oh, the wonders of autocratic corruption.

This chapter of history is so significant because of how much it would impact the next century of European history. It shows how Germans came to be very nationalistic, militaristic, and prideful people. And that similar sentiments were found all across Europe. In the next chapters (concert of Europe, WW1, WW2), we see how different circumstances and experiences could change a country built on hyper nationalism, twisting it into something sinister. After all, every villains needs their epic origin story.

Let's be real. Other than resource necessity, one of the biggest reasons that Japan started the World War in Asia and fell from democracy was because Europeans and Americans refused to treat them as equals. From the Russo-Japanese War til the 1930s, Japan had taken on the banner of fighting racism so that they could be treated as a proper great power that didn't have to keep proving things. The biggest blow to Japan's effort to end racism was during WWI. After being begged to join the Entente, the Imperial Japanese Army & Navy played crucial roles in the alliance's war effort in Asia. But after their undeniable impact, even President Woodrow Kumbaya Wilson made it clear that Japan would always be seen as inferior to white nations, regardless of their achievements. This is also the source of belief in Japanese "exceptionality" and "superiority" which was a common attitude during WW2. "A bruised ego," if you please. (17:00) Also, you said that Britain and other foreign powers started to treat Japan as equals. There is a big asterisk there. It was only official, not practical. Their actions spoke louder than words.

And then USA came by after France "gave" Haiti independence + massive debt. That's when the US started its hands at being an empire.

@vantaplat7411 Damn. And I learned that the European theater was technically still Britain vs France because GB allied with Prussia.
