The Space Race is no longer just about low-Earth dominance and moonshots. Thus, it is objectively inaccurate to argue that the Chinese National Space Administration is "winning" the competition. This looks at lunar exploration in a vacuum without fully recognizing the scopes of space telescopes, stellar-related missions, agendasbeyond the moon, rocket technology, and accessibility. With that rubric, the Western-led effort is obviously punching well above China's weight, despite the NCSA's exploration effort, temporarily out-performing NASA's Artemis program.

The most challenging part of the International Space Station was that it was a joint venture between the US, Russia, Europe, Canada, and Japan with many more welcome (as long as they don't steal protected designs).

Actually no. NASA is NOT a military agency. It is an independent governmental agency. The United States Armed Forces already had the Air Force for aeronautics and space-related matters. Even though the Space Race was driven because the innovation of rocket technology had military applications, unlike the USSR, NASA has always remained independent from the military. Instead, NASA collaborates with the AF, the Triad, the Pentagon, the White House, & the US Congress as a member of government (not military).

Why Space X is partnering with NASA so often. Because the Artemis Program will turn the moon into an interplanetary gateway "station" (to Mars). And, of course, cooperating competitivity leads to better results in a more efficient & timely manner, as opposed to individualistic monopolism.

@goukux5908 Just to be clear, Space Force's function is less Guardians or weapons in space and more Guardians behind computers controlling to satellites. Plus, making sure nobody else brings any weapons in space (harder than it sounds). So, Space Force already has all the necessary existing infrastructure.

@ottovonottsville476 Thanks. Very interesting to know. Also, I doubt the US would be the first military to violate the Outter Space Trearty. But, yes, I am sure if the order comes from Washington, Space Force and other military elements could easily & discreetly station weapons in low-Earth orbit (and maybe even the Lunar Gateway). A dubious task since the USSF has taken up the position of enforcing transparency in 21st-century space flight, navigation, & communication.

@dranzacspartan8002 ACTUALLY Taiwan has been recognized by the UN as the "official" China until 1970s. Also, it doesn't matter how loudly Beijing complains. Taiwan is a de-facto independent country with democratic elections and its own domestic and foreign policies. And most importantly, despite being 1,000s of miles away from Washington, there is no doubt that Honolulu still acts like a US state under the Federal Government's control. Meanwhile, the mainland is ~100 miles away, but Taipei still governs outside the authority of the CCP. The only way Beijing can control Taipei is by crossing the Taiwan Straits, invading a de-facto neighbor, & starting a war w/ the US and its pacific allies (which is more difficult than invading Ukraini). At that point, the CCP's will wouldn't be much different from Putin's Russian agressions.

@dranzacspartan8002 Okay. So what is going on is that you don't understand the difference between "Province" and "Commonwealth". A province is a regional state within a country; it is not sovereign. A commonwealth is an independent country that still works internationally with its former imperial ruler; it is sovereign. Xi Jinping has made it clear that he sees Taiwan as part of "One-China". So by that logic, Taiwan can't be a province (like Xi claims) and a commonwealth at the same time. [Also, unlike the British Empire, there's no Qing Empire anymore. ] And there is even a law regarding "One-China" that the PLA is lawfully able to forcibly unify Taiwan with the mainland. So let there be no mistake. This is a conflict between the Republic of China & the People's Republic of China. All of this proves that the CCP sees Taiwan as something that China must take, by peace or force. Meanwhile, the ROC, the US, Japan, & Australia, South Korea & Indian, are the only ones that are willing to counter any potential Chinese invasion of Taiwan.

I am also painfully aware that you are reciting Beijing's talking points. Maybe you should try looking at the situation a little bit more objectively. Also, instead of focusing on the US or Mainland China, try focusing on the people of Taiwan and what they are going through.

Well, it is nice to see that the CNSA's priorities are research-based & for obtaining more information to further the field of astrophysics. But, where are the Moonshot missions!? Come on China, we're in a space race, so we HAVE TO go back to the moon Also: It would be nice if CHES was also able to sense for infrared light like the James Webb Telescope.

You do know that artificial gravity is a lot more complicated than building space stations. You should not expect us to harness gravity to that level when we haven't even reached Type 1 Civilization status. Compared to that building robust space stations and space gateways is a piece of cake.

China didn't reinvent shit. Their station is just a rethought version of the ISS. It's easy to make improvements when prior designs are copied. If anyone reinvented the Space Station, it is NASA, ESA, CSA, & JAXA for their ambitious plan to put an International Space Station in orbit around the Moon. It's a reinvention because while the ISS is built for Low-Earth Orbit missions, the Lunar Gateway is a stepping stone for any Lunar and Inter-Planetary Mission.
