@swift_learn Cool opinion.

@rdelrosso2001 Yup. Tactically speaking, the Government of Taiwan (as in The Republic of China) already declared its sovereignty and territorial claims in 1912. So the nation has no need to formally declare independence in the 21st century because of redundancy and provoking China (PROC) w/ no benefit is pointless.

California Girl, Nancy Pelosi > Xi Jinping

Truth to power. Taiwan already is independent and Bejing knows it can't do anything about it -- even Washington prefers this over most other alternatives. So long as no party does something drastic and extremely provocative (ie: a Declaration of Independence; from Taipei, CC: Beijing) then the current peace maintained by brinksmanship will last. But of course, as Ben stated, Taiwan & Asia Pacific deserve a better future; maybe even a future with a Taiwanese President & Chinese Leader reconciling or the ROC gaining UN Membership. A little bit of idealism is healthy for momentum.

@scottjohnson5687 Yeah like the extremist members within the KMT -- who want reunification under nationalist rule -- & even radical members within the DPP -- who want complete, acknowledged, & legal autonomy. But most politicians and people of the ROC are content with the status quo.

@chezsnailez Or.... You know-- Taiwan can just chill with the status quo. That IS what an overwhelming majority of the Taiwanese public and politics desire.

@nickmagrick7702 It isn't meant to be. Do you happen to know Theodore Roosevelt's unoriginal nickname?

Am I the only one that realized that the PR of China wasn't going to invade Taiwan even when Speaker Pelosi? For the People Liberation Army to actually move forward from threatning rhetoric to military aggression, something incredibly drastic would have to transpire in the upper echelons of the CCP's leadership. (And I honestly hope to God that it doesn't come to that.)
