Obviously, North Korea doesn't want war. That was never the point of this video. The point is that now, Kim is turning pivoting back towards Cold War politics. You know, because we are in a Cold War.

Geopolitics is weird like that

It's hard to denuclearize while other hostile nations still have their nukes. S Africa was a lucky exception because it only developed to a nuclear weapon to prevent the fall of Apartheid, White SA. When it fell, the Black Government had no need to keep nuclear weapons since there was no threat, meaning nukes turned into a financial liability with no purpose. It's hard to imagine that happening anywhere else.

North Korea wanted to be a sovereign and respected nuclear state to the "West" more than anything else. And the "West" wanted a denuclearized Korean Peninsula more than anything else. These were irreconcilable differences. Being a military superpower, it only takes one US Administration to topple a hostile government: Saddam got toppled on accusations of WMDs he didn't have*; Gaddafi lost his impunity when he denuclearized. So that leaves us with Cold War geopolitics, now with a powerful China and an independent North Korea with leverage over Russia.

@dirremoire You say that like the US isn't the most economically prosperous nation. Yet, the wealth gap widens. Economic freedom is only a slice of the bigger freedom pie.

But when the world needed McDonalds Diplomacy the most, it vanished.

Yeah. But NK won't give up nukes for the sake of survival and US won't let it integrate into the Global Economy without denuclearization. Also, if S Koreans aren't afraid of getting nuked, then you shouldn't be while visiting. Besides, South Korea, esp Seoul, has so many public nuclear bunkers. They even have an app for it. You might notice some while walking around the city if you look closely.

@guardianoffire8814 Bruh nobody is in favor of a nuclearized Korea, except NK. South Korea is perfectly happy staying under the US's nuclear umbrella.

Nah, US Government should hire him to straighten out our foreign policy.

@Flawtistic How does it feel to be that cynical.

@PapyrusPundit Quality, independent journalism will always have its haters. Especially when it comes to randos on the internet.

You must not have studied the history of the 1900 properly. Everybody likes to reference the years before the World Wars without being intimately familiar with that era. Sure, when you squint, two different things start to look similar.

@ArawnOfAnnwn You say that like China's best years in the last 3 centuries weren't between the 1990s and late 2010s. It wasn't just the West that benefited from the end of Cold War hostilities. A majority of the world also so did.

Expecting that is like expecting a fantasy.
