  3. Actually, general consensus is that the original inspiration from the 2nd Century Roman General, Lucius Artorius Castus of gen Artoria (Roman nobility). He was sent by Rome to be a leader of Roman Britain (it is disputed if this was meant as the Governor or the Military Commander). He is credited with expanding the urban planning and exceptional military skill. He was a legend, but not King Arthur in the modern sense. LAC was later reinvented to become a folk hero against the Saxon invasions of the 5th Century, thus giving rise to the Arthurian legends.
