  1. I know this this just a minor tangent, but Mav surviving that test flight is realistic. It is not rare for an experimental jets and so the military prepare accordingly. In Mav's case, ejecting at speeds above 10 mach didn't kill him because he had an ejection pod. An ejection seat wouldn't be able to withstand hypersonic escape, but an ejection pod would. The key differentiator between successful test flights, failed test flights, and the Shuttle Disaster is failure of the imagination. Although, it does suck that I have to tell you all this all because the movie didn't want to designate screen time to show that. All the movie showed was Maverick moving to eject -- then the disintegration of the Darkstar -- then Mav on the ground with no pod in sight. Also, it's silly how he basically just walked it off without even as much as a concussion.
