  2. While she was no saint or hero, Marie Antoinette (and even Louis XVI) were made into scapegoats to showcase the French Revolution as a righteous cause. In fact, the very last King Louis even tried (in vain) to reform the country, but that fact didn't fit into the revolutionary narrative. Their damning sin was not being able to save a collapsing kingdom that had already started collapsing long before they were born.
