  6. 6 years later, I get where Forbes was coming from. But, the power of Vladimir Putin was always less than the power of any President of the United States. There is argument to be made about the 90s but that argument falls flat in the increase of power the US Government got as a result of 9/11. In both, soft and hard power, Putin's Russia has never exceeded the power of any POTUS even Trump (the President that Putin made).

  8. Saying this in 2023, I am so glad Trump was not reelected because Russia would have had free reign over not just all of Ukraine but also the Baltics and maybe even some Black Sea members. Articles 4 & 5 would have instantly become meaningless. Finland and Sweden probably wouldn't have summited applications for membership to such an unreliable, transactional alliance (Trump would be like Erdogan but 100x worse). And Trump, being close friends with Putin (his words not mine), would not have sanctioned Russia at all. Here's hoping Trump (nor DeSantis) doesn't win in 2024.

  9. I know in recent years Angela Merkel's reputation has been soured by the Nord Stream deals, but even besides that, she has done so much more for Germany and Europe as a whole. Specifically about the Migrant Crises: Once, again, Germany didn't just do the right thing, but it showcased the all too ignored European Xenophobia. Up until 2015, we knew border security was not always ethical but the crisis worsened the dormant social issues. Today, without a shadow of a doubt, the Frontex, Europe's border force, has been proven to have committed several human rights violations and the Refugee Geneva Convention by several international organizations, including the UN Human Rights Watch & OHCHR.

Specifically about the Financials Crises: Honestly, a major reason why Greeks reacted that way to Merkel's orthodox economic policies is because Greek citizens have very low trust in their government and institutions. In general, Greeks are more family-oriented than state-oriented, but this modern distrust stems from the Nazi Occupation of Greece and the oppression they brought. (The YouTuber, Kraut, made a great video on this.) That's why her common conditions for the German loans were seen as foreign imperialism and why they opposed the Greek government's implementation of her conditions. Edit: I rewatch the Kraut video and noticed I left out many details. Most important is the fact that Greece's Low Trust Society stemmed from Ottoman rule. And after, during the independence from the Turks, the people were aided by foreign powers that then put a German Bavarian Prince to a new Greek Monarchy (and we all know how that ended). Scores later, the Nazi Occupation worsened the Low Trust Society.

  22. Well, this is an architectural (not to mention militaristic) wet dream, but none of this is practical. I mean I get that the dire urge to unburden (Old) Cairo and that Egypt is capable of building yet another new capital. However, first of all, Egypt is on already fierce levels of water scarcity and without a long-term plan, Benshangul's GERD will bring the desert paradise into a parched ruin. Yet, New Capital is going to have a water-intensive, green park stretch through the middle of the whole city. Not only are there bundles of artificially place trees that will use up tons of H20, but THERE IS GOING TO BE A MAN-MADE RIVER!!!!! Last I check rivers were freshwater bodies. Second of all, the world is in a functional sand shortage which is used to make cement. Meaning a shortage in cement that heavily impairs architectural execution, so good luck building obliques, palaces, and even asphalt. (PS: And desert sand does not equal cement sand.)
