These statements are true, depending on how you measure additions to the debt. We estimate the ten-year cost of the legislation and executive actions Trump signed into law was about $8.4 trillion, with interest. A better way to measure how much Trump added to the debt is to evaluate the ten-year debt impact of the laws and executive orders he signed. We estimate that those added a combined $8.4 trillion to the debt over a ten-year period – consistent with Haley’s claim. US BUDGET WATCH 2024. The US economy has performed better when the president of the United States is a Democrat rather than a Republican, almost regardless of how one measures performance…The superiority of economic performance under Democrats rather than Republicans is nearly ubiquitous: it holds almost regardless of how you define success. By many measures, the performance gap is startlingly large. Since 1949, there has been a Democratic advantage in the average performance of key macroeconomic indicators measuring economic health, including GDP, job growth, and unemployment rate.
