At the close of the Constitutional Convention of 1787, Benjamin Franklin was asked a question as he left Independence Hall on the final day of deliberation. In the notes of Dr. James McHenry, one of Maryland’s delegates to the Convention, a lady asked Dr. Franklin: “Well Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?" Benjamin Franklin replied: “A republic....if you can keep it.” Trump is now telling us that we can no longer keep it. This election will determine whether or not we keep our 244 year old republic, or see it replaced with a deranged tyrant, hellbent on destroying America.
