  1. The best we can hope for in Afghanistan is a truce, because we are not going to "defeat" the Taliban. The Taliban isn't going anywhere, because they have no place to go. If the Taliban is ever going to actually be defeated, it will have to be defeated by the Afghan people themselves. But as far as America is concerned, there will be know " victory" in Afghanistan, unless we redefine the definition of victory.
