How can she say that the civil war was about the freedoms of every individual, when slaves had no freedom. Someone please....make it make sense.

It was about state rights. The right for a state to own another human being. Ergo....it was over slavery.

@voteformethanks5307 South Carolina's declaration of secession mentions slavery 13 times. So yes, it was definitely over slavery. It was also about the expansion of slavery into new territories, which is exactly what the south wanted to do.

@theophany150 It was definitely a battle of good vs. evil. "Whenever I hear anyone arguing for slavery, I feel a strong impulse to see it tried on him personally." --Abraham Lincoln, March 17, 1865

"Those who deny freedom to others, deserve it not for themselves; and, under a just God, cannot long retain it." --AbrahamLincoln (April 6, 1858),

@franklin9400 South Carolina's declaration of secession mentions slavery 13 times. In fact, the first reason listed in South Carolina's declaration of secession was the issue of slavery. So yes, it was definitely over slavery. It was also about the expansion of slavery into new territories, which is exactly what the south wanted to do.

@franklin9400 What we do know, is that if it were not for the issue of slavery, the war would have never happened. The south would have came to some sort agreement with the government with any other existing issues. But when it came to the issue of slavery, they were ready to go to war. The south built it's economy on the backs of slaves. They were the most important thing to it's economy. And that's why slavery was the catalyst that started the war.

@voteformethanks5307 I already looked it up. And what we do know, is that if it were not for the issue of slavery, the war would have never happened. The south would have came to some sort agreement with the government with any other existing issues. But when it came to the issue of slavery, they were ready to go to war.
