  6. You could consider me old school. I'm on the downhill side of 75. But even I do everything online. I haven't written a paper check in five or so years now. I don't even know where my checkbook is! Here's a tip for you Steve. Have one email account dedicated to important things that you receive -- banking statements, utility bills, credit card bills, and etc. Don't broadcast this email far and wide and you will be surprised how few junk emails you receive. I used to save paper bills and receipts... Until the termites ate all my paper records.

  7. This almost happened to me. I was trying to sell a $3,000 guitar online. Someone messaged me that he was out of the country but he wanted the guitar for his son who lives in Brazil. He said he would pay me via PayPal and he would send someone to pick up the guitar later that day. As his story got more and more convoluted and detailed, I smelled a rat. I did a quick search on PayPal scams - the most likely one is that he had hacked someone else's PayPal account and was going to pay me from this account. He would have someone pick up the guitar and later PayPal would reverse the fraudulent payment. He would get the guitar, I would get the shaft. So I told him I wanted him to use a different payment method. He baulked, I insisted, and he disappeared. Close call.
