@g4rrett73 I too have visited Japan within the last year and I agree. I enjoyed the train systems there. I think intercity railways in the U.S. would only be feasible in a select few areas until there is some growth in passenger railways in areas with good zoning/infrastructure for walkability. Before trains there probably should be other forms of transport. Perhaps better biking infrastructure is the least cost prohibitive. So I agree that generally many cities are not equipped for passenger railways, its not profitable for private companies. Fix the zoning in cities and make it more walkable and then railways might be profitable. One such example of a small, incremental change might be Arlington Virginia. They've got intercity trains, no?
