  3.  @KillerOfTheShadow  Well, it actually changed significantly for a lot of America. Rather than being portrayed as the soldier who killed a father on father's day and a child, it explained he was being prosecuted extremely for such a minor charge. The jury found him innocent 6 to 1 on all but the one charge, which he did not deny, the photograph. All other charges were dropped due to a lot of questionable evidence and hearsay. It exposed a huge lack of transparency, how the military can violate the most basic of civil rights, even for service members, and lastly the dangerous ego and political backstabbery within the Navy. Simply said, there was no due process. His wife managed to convince the former president to step in, which caused the case to turn out the way it had, and allowed him to coordinate with lawyers more effectively rather than being placed in solitary confinement for his whole trial and imprisoned for life. This was a pretty big case for something so seldomly discussed and poorly understood past the initial reporting provided by the large news outlets. If you're willing to look into this some more sources, navytimes had a great article where the journalist discusses how NCIS got rid of some of their people afterward due to the way the case turned out. The NCIS and Navy sure went to some extreme lengths to protect their image. It just goes to show how underappreciated and how little you have in terms of independence and rights when you join the military. The reporting from AP, NYTimes, and most of the other news outlets was done extremely poorly. They unknowingly relied on intentional "leaks" from the gov't and focused primarily on the NCIS's cherry-picking of evidence rather than aggregating all the evidence to see whether the case was sound in court, which if they did, it would have shown that the prosecution had unreliable evidence and poor intent. The big news outlets had little to no investigative journalism and it is quite scary if you look at it like that.
