It seems to me (my best friend is a writing coach who helps with admissions essays) that what is missing from your "trauma essay" examples is some connection between the trauma the writer (you?) suffered and the subsequent desire to go to whichever school, college, or post-graduate program she is (you are?) applying to. You write "I suffered!" and "I want to go to Upper Crust University" but what you need is "I suffered, and therefore, ever since then, I have wanted to go to Upper Crust University, because [... etc.]" or "... in order to [... etc.]"

  3. I have been saying since Reagan first campaigned on the slogan “Let’s make America great again”: those who trumpet it lack ambition. Why settle for only making America as great as it was? Why not aim higher and make America even better?
