The first few sentences, about how we don't know what the next pandemic is gonna be, but we have to try to get ready for it even so, is the justification for so-called "gain of function" experiments. We have to learn which pathogens can "gain" the "functions" which will enable it to attack us and become a pandemic!

  6.  @micixduda  If Orwell had been controlled by the powers that be, then he would not have been allowed to write Nineteen Eighty-Four. The Powers that Were were not stupid. They would have recognized themselves. The interesting thing is that he anticipated hidden cameras and universal surveillance, but he didn't anticipate computers or biotech.
