  1. I don’t think this loss is because of anything the Dems did or didn’t do. Authoritarians are winning all over the world, in the long term and in the short term. Part of the reason for the short-term is during COVID, center-left governments embarked on huge inflationary spending programs, and now we’re paying with noxious inflation, which voters hate. But even without that, I fear that center-left candidates are currently on the wrong side of history.

  3. The guy in the lab-coat: Yes, David certainly is right about that. The movie about the submarine in the patient's bloodstream was Fantastic Voyage (1966); my mom took me to a screening of it when I was a single-digit-age kid and that is the reason I worked in immunology/antibody-chemistry when I grew up and had a career.

  4. I think it does have some contemporary value, although it would be nicer if it were more current. "Trumpcarceration" is (most likely) prescient, although "Trumpselfexileinordertoavoidcarceration" might be more accurate.
