She's extremely smart and energetic, she knows how to play the role of the trustworthy leader who has the country's problems in hand (just as Reagan knew how to play the role of the simple, down-to-earth, obedient, optimistic ordinary-guy); she's a 21st-Century-type family person - a devoted mother and spouse; she's very well-connected to the wealthy elite, she's a good judge of character, and she's a household name.

FBI is not "going after" anyone "for their religious beliefs."_ FBI is learning what it needs to know in order to head off the real risk that these particular Catholics might do something violent and illegal. It has happened before, more than once. To pretend that being a practicing Catholic means that the practicing Catholic would never do anything violent and illegal would be very unwise. What FBI investigates someone who is Catholic, it's not because the person is Catholic, but because he (or someone close to him) shows signs of being inclined to illegal violent activity.

The fact is, the more we interact with people in the tropics, the higher the risk of having tropical diseases spread out of the tropics. Also, given our previous history with coronaviruses, it was statistically very likely that there would be another one. You guys should focus less on trying to "get" Fauci - you won't succeed, because he (almost certainly) didn't do anything wrong - and think about the real dangers, which are, the next big pathogen which will likely hit us in less than a decade, and extremely likely some time in the next 20 years. Every day, it gets easier and easier for some crazy apocalypse-minded fanatic with too much money to build a covert lab and genetically engineer worse variants of the virus. Imagine if there were suddenly a variant which caused two percent of patients to go blind. Sure, sci-fi writers have been writing about engineered pathogens for many many years, but now, there's a simple, flow-chart-type method for attempting to actually do it. Fauci is not the problem. The problem will be someone like Osama bin Laden would be if he had gone to grad school and taken a degree in molecular biology or genetic engineering, and then gotten a few years of practical lab experience under his belt before retiring to whacko-land.

Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan had similar good luck. (The new technology which made the economy roar in the 1980s was computers cheap enough for ordinary businesses to buy. The new technology which made the economy roar in the 1990s was internet for everyone, and the new technology which benefited Trump was fracking, which grew from nearly-nothing in 2007 to the big beautiful giving-tree supplying half of our energy in 2016, BEFORE Trump took office. It'll come back again, too, once the investors get over the horrible beating they took in 2020 when demand dropped into the toilet and the price of oil was far below the cost of fracking it out of the shale and a lot of fracking-well investors lost their shirts.)

As I said, it didn't just create a new economic sector; it multiplied the productivity of all economic sectors. And the problem isn't that fracking is too expensive; the problem is that the price of oil was too low and the investors got stung. Now that the price of oil is so high, the investors are coming back.
