Because he is a federal judge

@deborahfreedman333 Absolutely! I'm not saying that he should be able to issue the ruling he has issued. He shouldn't. I'm explaining that he actually is able to make the ruling he has made, because he is a federal judge, and that means he actually can issue rulings like this, which will affect the whole country, unless it gets overturned or modified. (I was an antibody-chemist until I retired, and I worked for some years in small-pharma, with guys whose job was to design clinical trials and get our inventions through FDA. I agree with you, FDA is/was unpopular, but very competent in real life, and very serious about protecting the consumers.)

If you can’t prescribe mifepristone for the mifepristone-follows-by-misoprostol regimen, you can still prescribe methotrexate for the methotrexate-followed-by-misoprostol regimen. This was thoroughly explored in the late 1990s by Dr. Richard U. Hausknecht, in a private setting, and in an academic setting by Dr. Eric Vittinghoff, Dr. David Grimes, and others. You can easily find their papers in JAMA and The New England Journal of Medicine and elsewhere. It wasn’t surprising, because methotrexate already had a long track record of use against ectopic pregnancies. Using it against normal pregnancies is quite a natural idea and it works very well and is extremely safe. Both methotrexate and misoprostol are very long-standing, frequently-used medications for numerous indications.
