@jbgood7694 Thanks for helping bring long overdue closure.

The Marines found them easy pickings for MANPADs in Desert Storm. 😟
2
Talk about masters of making do...is there no end to Finland's resourcefulness?? 'Gargling bleach'...HA! 😆
2
@adamlannerd1408 We so wish!

To my eye, that rather protuberant nose gave it an ungainly look, which was obviously incorrect. I was aware of its British use, but not French. Neither was I aware of the fighting in the Levant and Madagascar. Thank you for the enlightenment!
1
Was that the design team that went on to design the Cutlass?
1
Thanks for reviews of odd and obscure aircraft--I just subscribed! Whatever its other faults, the visibility from the cockpit looks spectacular!
1
@TheGrant65 Thanks! The F-106 was arguably the best interceptor of its day. For some really good interviews with Dart drivers, check out the Fighter Pilot Podcast, also on YouTube.

It would have been a short-lived dog. The only people who were really attracted to it were the anti-military politicians of the early '70s and McD, who hoped to make money on their pet project. Look at the F/A-18. It has almost nothing in common with its F-17 predecessor beyond overall shape
1
@Joshua_N-A Exactly.
1
Off-topic, but thanks for pointing out that the US did abandon South Vietnam. ON-topic, the cost-cutters in Congress were also looking hard at trying to completely replace the big-deck CVNs with the smaller, less capable SCS.
1
Wow! What did they think of next??
1
I got nothin'...
1
VERY WELL DONE!! 😎 I recognized it right away, but your narrative was well worth the watch...😄
1
@barryervin8536 Do you mean Laos? The USAF pretty much ran Rolling Thunder from Thailand.
1
@alganhar1 Good point.
1
HA! Another excellent video about a forgotten effort by a legendary company. BUT...I find it easy to imagine that it was actually all about being able to use that one movie clip...💩 Well played, sir! History is well-served by properly timed humor! 😎
1
And SLUF (Short Little Ugly F*cker) for the USAF A-7s.
1
You mean it's NOT 'Sh*t Hook'??! 😜
1
@pike100 It is a slang term used by soldiers.
1
@TheD2JBug Given the other problems of operating P-47s from carriers (aside from one-time catapult launches), I never even thought trying to fit them on the ship's elevators.
1
@TheD2JBug Yep!
1
@animaltvi Or the landing gear struts go right up through the wings.
1
The Bi-Mono was a little cutie, though!
1
Was the landing gear fixed? All the photos show the gear down, and Wiki didn't say.
1
@K1W1fly Thanks!
1
'Sterner Stuff'--spelled NUTZ! With brand new unknown tech, there's often only one way to find out...🤔
1
@justme8340 MY stomach queases just thinking about it. OTOH, if the gunner's stomach is strong enough, it could well have been the ultimate thrill ride.
1
An 'also-ran' that wound up earning its keep.
1
@tonymarsh8436 Amen!
1
@ian-t7t Did he continue flying?
1
@ian-t7t 😄 Good for him!

C-119: 'A Dempsey Dumpster being ravished by two A-1s'. Another factor in the increase of armament caliber was the desire to reliably destroy trucks on the Ho Chi Minh Trail. 20mm and 40mm tore them up, but the N. Viets were able to salvage too many. The 105mm was found to do the job quite nicely.
1
@markgranger9150 Thanks; I hadn't heard that.
1
@grahambuckerfield4640 Thanks! 🙂 That's a good overview.
1
Thanks! I remember reading about the Enforcer in aviation magazines, but didn't realize it lingered until the '80s. Still it took the Mighty A-10 to finally kill the Mustang.
1
@GuildAce909 Indeed, and I was not aware of it until watching this. But he mentioned that one in the video
1
A great 'might have been'.
1
Thanks! So the development of the A-7 from the F-8 was not the first time Vought built a bomber based on a fighter.
1
'Keep laughing while I shoot you...'
1
@ROBERTN-ut2il Interesting! Another quality product of the 'Grumman Iron Works'! I have seen a photo that purported to be the surviving TBF at Midway sitting on its landing gear. It's easy to get old photos mixed up.
1
😆 Those fighter pilots must have been hung like a stallion!
1
@nunyabeeswax2575 HA!
1
The question of ammo was brought up in another vid...how much of that old 100mm stuff is still around and what shape is it in?
1
The experienced pilots escorted the fodder, and were supposed to come back.
1
Army CAS is better served with sensors and artillery; more responsive and persistent (all weather/around the clock). AF can handle deep interdiction. What the Army REALLY needs is control of fixed-wing theater air transport, also banned by Key West.
1
'The French imitate no one, and no one imitates the French'
1
Good, solid service for its time. And those guns...4x30mm would be a very bad thing to receive.
1
@treszenrv9401 Truth. Low humor is often a means of relieving stress--which is also why it's usually completely inappropriate in more pastoral settings.
1
@EdNashsMilitaryMatters Thanks! Is there an in-depth Blenheim video in the works??
