  1. The 'galling'; Ian could have gone into a bit more detail, but stainless steel doesn't like to slide against itself under heat and pressure. With all-stainless guns, the slide and frame have to be heat-treated differently to prevent galling. Until this became practical, stainless autos were not practical. For their other issues, Colts got it right; my stainless Combat Commander has been flawless.
