  1. Once you know the wheel is connected to the propeller, it makes perfect sense. Any car enthusiast understands transmission and differential gear ratios, and how a tiny engine can produce a lot of torque through gearing. It's the same thing that's happening here. The small wheel is moving quickly and the big wheel (the propeller) is moving less quickly, but with higher torque.

Preparedness obviously improves chances of success, but it doesn't guarantee anything. You can even be so prepared for something that you never leave the house. Planning for every possible outcome not only takes the fun out of things, but it can also paralyze you from taking any action. And sometimes the expense is not practical. Armchair quarterbacks will always criticize those who take action while they go get another bag of chips and dip.
