  1. There's one thing in diminishing of the worldin Tolkiens work you forgot to mention. Intertextuality and viewpoint of his work. Lord of the rings is written in present time by Samwais. Tone is different from hobbit as it's Bilbos memoirs. Silmarillion he never finished contains legends of the world, and that way they grow more legendary, further history it delves. Just like real world legends.
