Blackmore IS Rainbow. Not to say Rainbow in 70's wasn't on different level from rest, with the a-list crew he had, but it was still very much his band. Light in the Black is probably my favorite of Blackmore's solos. The song is also pretty much the blueprint for power metal, over a decade before the genre came to be.

Having a distinct sound doesn't mean you have to be repetitive. I like lot of music on this list, but definitely agree with it too. (Status Quo should have made the list too!) Listen Ramones Too Tough To Die or AC/DC's Stiff Upper Lip album for instance. Instantly recognisable sound, but there both actually did something less formulaic. Of course all bands of the list surely have a lot of songs that aren't as similar too. And like said, it doesn't matter if their music is anyway. With some artist that's the idea.

@any-jam4467 Naah. AC/DC has way more variety you give them credit for. It's just their hit songs are very similar which is hardly their fault as what is popular is popular. I'd also argue there's more to it than singing style, chords and formulas that differentiate sound. Every AC/DC album before Mutt Lange era sounded distinctively different. And every Mutt Lange produced album regardless of artist also sounds like Mutt Lange. I'm not big fan of the guy...

And Jaguar!

That's not plot hole. It's a sly twist in the plot.

Hint to people complaining of police brutality: Don't act like apes.

@theultimatesagavan6287 I made absolutely no mention about race.

I've been in Spain, Czech, Sweden, and must say I've never had much problem with customer service in restaurants or hotels. Only that in Spain they tend to be way too chatty and pretentiously friendly. As a Finn I'm just happy when they bring the menu and my order in correctly and reasonable time.

Actually I think that good be really interesting... That would simply meannwe'd have numerous smaller networks all over globe. After all, the technology isn't that complex to create, when you have enough computers around.
2
@NinjaBrutality No. They're servants of Manwe

This is pretty stupid discussion anyway: How are you going to FLY unnoticed into a that well guarded territory. That has the huge guard tower and the fell beasts etc... You don't need any fantasy logic to realize they would be noticed and killed right away.

1: Proper soldiers just don't randomly shoot suspectible things. 2: If the plans really were there, and they shot the vessel. Whose going to tell Vader "We suspected plans were there, so we destroyed the thing" That's why they want the plans back. They know rebels wouldn't yet have managed to copy it, so if they retrieve it, they would know them secured

That's just being human. I think it actually adds whole lot of depht to the otherwise pretty run of the mill romance plot.

Exactly!

@LockeWick Not necessarily. Magic is kind of catch all term for everything not explainable by our knowledge (If you like metal music, check out Tarot - Magic and technology, it's rare example that deals with the topic) Also Robert Jordans Wheel of Time books has one of the finest depiction of magic in my opinion. It is built around entire philosophy of existence: In a world that is created as being at the same time history, and future, of the world we live in. Everything is made from viewpoint of the characters, so there is no definitive "facts" on how the world in the books works. Maybe there is magic, that derives from the existence itself, that in the point of time we live in has been forgotten and disappeared. Or maybe the characters in the books live in time, where remnants of high technology of previous eras still exists in a form of magical aspects of the world. In any case the world itself is one of the most crafted ever in fantasy. And Amazon is releasing a series that should come out this year... Hope it turns out at least somewhat good... There's jusst too much to cover well in the books, but lest not judge beforehand...
1
And another point: What if there wasn't any magic in the world of Game of Thrones? I mean: first season came pretty close, and I would still classify it as fantasy series. It's just that we're so accustomed to Tolkiens legacy (and of course everything that inspired him), that we think it is what define fantasy rather than accepting them as cliches..

It's not really a cliffhanger when tere is entire book series to continue the story, and film series just ended on first, because it was crappy adaptation...

Glorified death of character is a stupid trope to begin with. What's funny is how people miss smart metalevel sarcasm in Banes death: Superhero movies are full of overblown fistfights and brawls. It's really fun twist for catwoman to simply shoot down the überstrong, "unbeatable" muscle man in Dark Knight Rises and just quip about it.

No Keeper of the Seven Keys I & II? It was Ronnie James Dio and Blackmore who created the genre in 1974, bu Helloween defined and made it popular with those albums. That and trash and heavier bands effectively smothered out classic heavy metal that ruled the 80's.

Seriously... FAG is not just random "brand name". It's over 100 old german company, and one of the largest brands in automotive industry. BTW: There's also large german manufacturer of turbochargers named KKK Detector is rather comical product name though to have in sale in america by the company.

There's brilliant callback to that in cheaply made scifi parody Star Wreck V: Lost Contact, where they destroy invading, unstoppable Korg ship...

Great list. It's hard to argue of those picks. Though Master of Puppets is, and stays, as the metals most overrated song of all time.

There is no way reformation wouldn't have happened: Martin Luther was only one of the reformists, but he got it really going. Thing is, catholic church was running things same way for millennia: Further from the origins of church history goes, more people will start to question, why priests and bishops only have authority to interpret holy texts. Then came printing press, and combined with increase in literacy... It was ineviteble even without any of the reformists that we now know of. Also, there is no way catholic church would have become greater authority it was. They always tried, but they could never control the secular powers. And neither could kings get church to bend their will, which caused the separation of church and state in west. The germanic ideas of individualism clashing with chruch doctrine after fall of Rome created the basis of western civilization tha is still apparent today. Regrdless of reformation

What does she say at 7:02 about Smoke on the Water? I keep hearing "central porno blues scale"... English isn't my native language...

Steve Harris has said he specifically wanted someone different. It also took quite lot convincing to accept him back, because he didn't want Maiden to just reduced doing same over and over. I like Blaze too, Virtual XI is good album, even when it's so different. Of course at this point it's pretty impossible to think Iron Maiden without Dickinson, as he's had so huge part in the bands sound especially in 2000's

I've never seen The Longest Day but I definitely now watch it when I have time. It looks incredible

@bobbysworld281995 Yep. And honestly it's really suspectible if it was actually from Germany or just crafted by british or french. There just isn't any sense what Germany would have thought to get with it. It's obvious Mexico didn't commit to it, and if they did, they'd be crushed so quickly the effect for Central powers cause would have been nothing at all. Meanwhile it just solidified US's stand against Germany.

I don't get what was wrong with Mortdecai? Certainly wasn't the best comedies out there, but fun and entertaining movie to watch. 3/5 Better by a wide margin than 90 % of Will Ferrel movies for comparison...
