  1. I could not really understand entropy up until I read C. Kittel, "Thermal Physics". This textbook is using a very simple binary 1D model to introduce pretty much all the concepts of the modern statistical thermodynamics. Once you understand that entropy is just a logarithm of the number of possible states the system can be in (all other macro parameters equal), it's really to see all the implications and also how this definition applies to much more complex systems. Nothing mystical or magical there, really.
