Is not it a mandatory rite of passage for any rust convert?

@svuvich everything. Chosing a platform based on familiarity instead of purely techical characteristics is a sign of incompetence.

@svuvich reading comprehension issues much? You're evidently not a competemt engineer. Again, learning time is a negligible fraction of a total development time, therefore how quickly you will deliver depends.primarily on technical characteristics of the tool. Learning time should not affect the result at all. There are so many wrong people in this industry these days, who should have stayed away....

@suede__ another one with reading comprehension issues? Firstly, yes, any competent engineer must have a broad expertise in an array of languages. And, secondly, any decently sized project is way, way bigger than an effort of learning some language or framework. And, yes, a lot of really awful people are in this industry and I'd do anything to push them out. If the trash coders who wrote Horizon were gatekeeped away, people would not have suffered. Same goes for every single software failure that did cost a lot. This industry need professional standards similar to medical and civil engineering fields.

@svuvich primeagen is far from an example of a.competent engineer. And this industry absolutely needs a lot more gatekeeping. Ideally, civil engineering level of gatekeeping.

@svuvich that's a very good analogy. Just an hour ago I saw a guy being helped by paramedics after he fell down the stairs on the Tube. A tile on the stair edge was wobbly and he lost his balance, tumbled all the way down. Coders who wrote Horizon were also not much more than tilers, yet they caused immesuarable harm to hundreds of people. Quality standards are important regardless of how small the job is.

@17Codiferus learning a new platform from dcratch is a negligible fraction of time of a development cycle of a mildly complex project for a competent engineer. If this is not the case, the engineer is not an engineer and should have chosen another career path.

@ToastedBreadcrumbs938 this is what experience is for - to be able to pick up the best practices and the spirit of a given technology quickly.

@dpgwalter we need much more.gatekeeping in this industry. Incompetence cause a lot of real life suffering, and should not be tolerated. Would you tolerate a self-taught incompetent surgeon? Automotive engineer? No? Then why all this welcomimg and openness in software? Let everyone in, and be kind to their mistakes, yada yada yada.

@svuvich tell it to the Horizon survivors. I will do everything in my power to keep people like you away from this industry. Because incompetence is not without the consequences for the general public. Now, answer, why do you think the ignorant uneducated ones should be allowed into the industry? And try to apply your reasoning to medicine or civil engineering, to see how deranged any possible argumemts are.

@taragnor a little slow system is not functional, because low latency is the main functional requirement.
