even a puny little frontend developer can write a code that hurts people. My eyes and my aesthetic feelings are hurt almost every time I browse web. Not to mention my time wasted on navigating badly designed UI with too mamy steps to do simple things. All developers must be regulated and treated the same way as doctors and civil engineers.

Not even self-driving - see the Toyota breaking bug.

@Legac3e yep, and this is exactly what is not happening in the industry. And if I am to chose between regulating the crap out of everyone and not eegulating at all, since selective regulation can be very hard to apply, I am for the former.

@Legac3e exactly, if we have to pay by slowing down the pace of churning out software (most of which was not necessary in the first place) for making less likely the incidents like Toyota breaking, Postoffice sub-master scandal, 2019 NHS trusts cryptolocker scandal, the recent air traffic control shambles, etc. - it's a tiny price to pay. Also, you never know where the software will end up. The coders who wrote the Postoffice system were mere code monkeys crapping out very regular CRUD. They screwed up even there, and it resulted in many real people deaths and broken lives. You do not have to work on a high risk control software to be able to cause massive damage, a mere CRUD can kill.

@Legac3e in the Postoffice example the coders were writing a typical, boring piece of accounting software, and yet, the bugs they left there resulted in deaths and shattered lives of dozens of victims. Nobody could have known in advance that this was a work with a risk and responsibility levels close to the work of civil engineers.

@Legac3e P.S. regarding the barriers - it is not necessarily too bad. Civil engineering have all those barriers, yet kids still build Lego bridges. It should not affect learners and hobbyists.

@IAmOxidised7525 Testing is not sufficient, you need a formal verification.

@KucheKlizma lol, you already demonstrated that you have no idea what emergent behaviour is.
