  1. You perceive education as some tool for training workforce. It's not. Higher education is producing Science. A feedback loop, feeding new scientists and thinkers into the system. Any other roles, including the effect on the economy and the general workforce are merely side effects, mostly unwanted. And for science elitism is not such a bad thing.
