There will be way better senior developers without junior developers - as they will come from the other engineering disciplines, bringing in diverse knowledge and problem solving tools.

@cerebralshunt2677 there absolutely is an exponent, naturally - the moment AI can use its own generated data (which it already can), it's mathematically exponential growth. And there's a ton of exponential processes in nature. Ever heard of chain reaction?

@ yes, it is doable, and we use this internally - an AI-driven system that does not even need to put the whole codebase into a context (it would not make much sense anyway), it just iteratively goes through all dependencies and narrates them the best it can at the moment, refining at the next iteration, relying on static code analysis to give an insight into what kind of data is passing through the code, what's the control flow, etc.

I always (as in, since around 80s) held a somewhat controversial opinion, that junior developers are not needed and are ruining this profession. The only good developers are people who transitioned into software engineering from some other scientific or engineering discipline, already with a lot of experience in problem solving, with a fundamental education and an iterdisciplinary attitude. Those who start in software straight away end up being very sub par.

@SirLightHouse-n8g most companies do not need developers at all (at least, in-house developers). The software is needlessly overengineered and orders of magnitude more complex than it should have been (all thanks to hordes of non-engineer juniors). The world with only proper engineers, well, engineering, would have been simpler, vastly more efficient and significantly safer. Horizon would not have happened in such a world.
