I know quite a few very rich people (rich as in routinely engaging in seed investment in 6-7 digit region in high;y risky startups), and all of them live quite simply, many don't even own cars, they dress normally, don't buy huge mansions, etc. And why would they? Simple life is comfortable enough, while all the flashy show consumes a lot of time and energy. People get rich to have a better life, not the other way around. I think the author have some caricature notion of what rich people should look like, derived from clowns like Trump or Musk.

@Bunny01879 yep, missed that bit, most of them don't even have any social media accounts outside of linkedin...

@ursosexmachina I sad this when I did not have much, and I say the same now when I'm quite well off. I don't even own a car.
