English is not a programming language. Consider this situation: you have an ideal team of very smart and obedient developers. Forget about AI for now, just a team of ideal humans. You give them instructions of what to build in plain English, having some idea of what you want to achieve in your mind. How many iterations will you need in order to get what you want? Likely, a lot. And the documented interaction between you and your team will not be sufficient for another team to blindly reproduce the result without having an access to you or the original team.

Yet, there is a huge difference between a well-defined formal language, however declarative or not, and a vague, undefined, open to multiple interpretations, heavily context-dependend natural languages.

If the new york times.get deleted, the world would not even notice.

@leonardo2108 what does the education system even have to do with the "demands of the workforce"?!?

Imagine you have a team of developers, you can interact with them in plain English. Can you produce valuable software that solve problems worth solving this way? Hardly. You need a lot more than just an obedient team implementing their perception of your ideas. More than that. The vast majority of people are fundamentally incapable of expessing their thoughts coherently. For a lot of them, formal languages are much more accessible tools than the vague natural languages.

@KoroushRP I don't think most of the self-educated people are actually educated. They lack systematic knowledge, they miss on understanding how Scientific Method works. They have massive gaps in their knowledge and no tool for even detecting these gaps. They tend to think they're knowledgeable, but this is just a massive Dunning-Kruger effect.

Singularity, schmingularity. We have not even tapped the engineering potential of all the existing technologies. Even if we stick to the current compute capability, stop discovering anything new in material science, etc., there is a huge potential for nearly unlimited technological development.

I voted P(DOOM), but for.reasons unrelated to AI - I am acraid we will not have time to reach AGI before humanity will destroy itself due to its stupidity. Populists winning all over the world, WW3 ready to erupt.

@Jedimaster36091 ever heard of the public libraries?
1
@Jedimaster36091 and taxes paid for stacks of NYT issues in a public library already. Now anyone, a human or an AI, can walk in and read all they want (I deliberately did not use the word "learn" here, for there is nothing to learn from NYT).

Luckily for accelerationists, this is the default and easy path to take. All the other paths require a very complex coordinated global effort to inhibit the technology development, and it is unlikely the anti-accelerationists will ever be able to coordinate it.
