It takes days for mothballed aircraft to be geared up for any sort of flight. There are countless maintenance and safety checks that need to happen

Nice agenda commenting
2
Hopefully they do but I highly doubt that
2
Yes because that was the agreement that both parties signed, if the US opened fire the Taliban would have stormed the airport and killed every US serviceman there
2
Not really, military command is extremely surprised at the speed at which the Taliban took over, why do you think there weren't more military assets on hand to evacuate
2
Ah yes because I remember Biden personally telling those Americans not to evacuate but to loiter about in an Afghanistan about to be turned over to the Taliban... Dumbass
2
You realise that military staff handle evacuation plans not presidents right?
1
The people there did have the chance to leave. There were flights going out for months but they didn't take them
1
Are you blind?
1
@scottanno8861 those evacuees are people who have a right to be evacuated because of their links to working against the Taliban. Being a woman in Taliban controlled Afghanistan is one thing, being someone who worked against the Taliban for years in Taliban controlled Afghanistan is quite another
1
How do you propose then to fetch them, since they are beyond the airport in Taliban controlled Afghanistan
1
@dankestvonmemen76288 The evacuation date was written down, all those Americans had MONTHS to get out of Afghanistan or into a military controlled area and they didn't. The Trump administration made the pull out deal and supported it, and only now when there's fame to gain is trump criticising it after the fact
1
@dankestvonmemen76288 one man having his flight cancelled twice does not explain why hundreds, thousands did not flee when they should have. When you're a citizen of a nation that has occupied Afghanistan for 20 years and the enemy is about to take control you do not dither about while they move to take control, you get tf out of dodge. There were months worth of flights, roads were still open there was plenty of time for them to leave but they didn't expect the Taliban to takeover so completely, so quickly and it would be psychotic to send what little soldiers remained on a suicide mission to get them
1
Actually generals run military run military operations, that never changes
1
Yes, what are they supposed to do?
1
Yes he would
1
@stevek6636 yes because he always see a 20 year trained force surrender to the enemy in a matter of days as opposed to months, I don't envy anyone who was stuck with the responsibility of handling that shit show
1
@stevek6636 if you ordered a package off Amazon and it arrived damaged is that Jeff Bezos's personal failure? No it's not, there's a chain of command here. Blaming Biden solely for this is like solely Bush for 9/11, it's politically motivated and ignores the larger issue. This was an intelligence, communication and coordination failure. Another problem is you seem to think there was an army left when the evacuation kicked into overdrive, the only thing that was left was a skeleton crew guarding the military section of the airport, they didn't have anyone left to go fetch stranded Americans. Allied command did not expect the Afghan forces to be so ineffective and the Taliban so organised as I have already said and without an army what on Earth were they to do. If they knew the scope of this do you honestly think they wouldn't have ordered all Americans out of the country ahead of time?
1
The war against the west or the war perpetrated by the west, how much do you preach about being targeted yet America hasn't had it's borders invaded in over 200 years. This is why we are feared and hated, because we go to other nations that do not want us, pulling out of Afghanistan was the right choice
1
Yes it would
1
They chose to stay, it was believed that the Afghan government would have held Kabul
1
Doesn't matter how rich you are, you can't teleport dozens of cargo planes from side of the world to another
1
Decades to come? How?
1
Agreed, US presidents don't have nearly as much power as people seem to think. This was a war that was effected by 4 different presidents and their varying policies. Politicians who invaded 20 years ago are just as responsible for this as the politicians who signed and pulled out now
1
Are you blind? "Gross incompetence" has been thrown around by everyone and their dog over the past few weeks
1
@luisacuna4326 funny how you think presidents control the logistical planning and executions of thousands of military operations
1
@LapisPebble do you honestly think Biden was told that American were going to be left behind before the shit hit the fan? Do you honestly think military command expected the Taliban to take over so quickly? Of course they didn't know, they had no clue how completely ineffective the Afghan defence force was, and how organised the Taliban were. Hell look at all those stranded Americans and collaborators. They had months to get out of Afghanistan ahead of the evacuation, but they stayed no doubt thinking it would take the Taliban far longer to seize Afghanistan
1
Didn't you hear? Kabul was under Taliban control they physically cannot send US troops into Kabul or beyond to fetch people, it's a death sentence
1
@ZontarDow I don't think anyone in military command expected such a swift Taliban takeover, I don't envy anyone who was stuck with that job
1
@ZontarDow who knows, this is all classified after all, nobody wants to be stuck holding this shit storm. But it seems to have been an almost complete shock from what I've been told
1
@ZontarDow and I don't buy those "leaks" full of "anonymous" sources. If the top knew the full scope they would have had more assets on hand to evacuate, they would brought in more cargo aircraft. The top obviously didn't expect the Taliban to take over so quickly
1
@ZontarDow the general public always fears everything. Remember when that Iranian general was assassinated, everyone was saying trump was about to start WW3
1
So who would you have sent to their deaths to rally up scattered citizens in a hostile nation
1
Ah yes all those thousand immigrants in a country of 300 million, they'll make a huge difference
1
Why? That makes no sense? If they knew they would have moved up the evacuation efforts, they were quite obviously blindsided
1
Well yeah how is the military supposed to help them, it would have been a death sentence to venture beyond the airport
1
The abandonment of Bagram was part of the signed agreement for evacuation with the Taliban
