@mr sir cough 737-max cough
26
@mr sir yup and because of that hundreds died even though there were numerous reports from pilots complaining about MCAS before the first crash. Boeing got slack with their standards to compete with Airbus and now it's cost them
14
If there ever was such an incident the crossing would likely then be closed off to civilians and motor vehicles but I don't think they'll do it before
3
A great contract? Their wages have been stagnant for 16 years and their pension plan was slashed
2
Absolutely not, British manufacturing saw it's largest downturn in employment from 1979-1989, the same time Maggie Thatcher, who was famously anti-union and stupidly short sighted, was in office, almost exactly dead on. She repealed loads of restrictions and heavily punished unions, freeing British companies to offshore all their production and foreign companies to buy up British ones, also resulting in more offshoring. Unions protect domestic jobs, hard right anti-union politicians don't
1
They've had stagnant wages for over 10 years, they've been patient for a fucking decade it's time for Boeing to pay up
1
Lol let's see Boeing foot the bill for a billion dollar factory in another state, the last one only took 5 years to build and another 2 to get all the labour together
1
Ah the trumpeteers are back on duty, empty heads filled with whatever they've been instructed with this time
1
They do, you're complaining about the wrong workers
1
Who would Boeing sue?
1
Widly overpaid? Their wages have been stagnant for over 10 years, their previous pension plan was scrapped by Boeing
1
@RS-ls7mm that's bullshit this isn't about the planet it's about the US, the fact that they make 18-19% more than the median wage is ridiculous considering how skilled they are, 16 years ago their wages were fantastic and they've remained stagnant ever since
1
Dissociation? I'm pretty sure the 33,000 striking machinists know exactly what Boeing is like and what their salaries pay for in reality, something you clearly don't
1
@donkramer8848 are you seriously complaining about machinists and mechanics who build fucking airplanes not looking glamourous enough for you? 40% pay rise would set right the past 16 years of stagnant wages and finally match inflation, how can a company that makes as much as Boeing not even keep up with inflation
1
Yup, hopefully they don't get swamped by Boeing but I wouldn't want to be them right now
1
I don't think taxes would have changed the 300% tariff on bombardier planes
1
@lanselithgow5865 no but the USA was the most lucrative market for bombardier. Additionally European airlines were opting for airbus so the east Asia market would have been the only one bombardier could use and they didn't even have a foot in there
1
@lanselithgow5865 lol yeah they didn't so they bought the c-series themselves or should I call it the A220
1
Are you joking? The strikers are the only reason those planes fly to begin with, and the ones who tried to warn the executives at the top about their corner cutting, they've been consistently screwed by Boeing management on pay year after year
1
You're actually spouting complete bullshit, the door was not put on by union workers, it was done by a contractor, Spirit Aerosystems, stop peddling your crap
1
40% and reinstated pension
1
Management loves cutting corners until there's nothing left but a straight line down
1
Wrong workers
1
I'll take that bet
1
What a pipe dream, you think Boeing doesn't have the money to pay its people a fair wage but does have the cash to front a billion dollar manufacturing plant in another state with no staff and years of capital to burn. Get with reality
1
What gives you that idea?
1
@davidoldham7476 you didn't answer my question...
1
@davidoldham7476 so you can't, thought so
1
@davidoldham7476 and yet you think the US government bails out its carriers as a selfless act to support jobs when in actual fact it's no different to the governments of the EU. The US government subsidises its airlines too you know but I suppose you wouldn't
1
That will require over a billion dollars in cash for the facility itself, let alone finding 33,000 qualified machinists. It's possible but 2 years is a pipe dream, more like 30
1
The government will just bail Boeing out again, they're not going bankrupt
1
They weren't responsible for that jackass
1
@zeeleo6115 their wages have been stagnant for 16 years, since before the recession, in what universe is that great?
1
@zeeleo6115 tf? You expect machinists who build aircraft to make minimum wage?
1
@zeeleo6115 for wages that have been stagnant for 16 years?
1
I doubt they'll see it that way, especially when they win
1
What innovation has Boeing management accomplished in the past 10 years huh, stock buybacks and a shortcut plane, wow that capitalism ideal is working out great for everyone, especially the hundreds dead
1
They do have a plant in South Carolina, and many of their planes ended up being sent to Washington for repairs, guess that's not going to happen anymore
1
@jsmith101 pretty easy to imagine really, unions aren't widespread in the US
1
That's a pipe dream
1
Why don't you do it then
1
After over ten years of stagnant wages, a 25% increase over 3 years doesn't even get close to matching inflation, much less that Boeing slashed their pension plan and benefits
1
You mean how they saw their wages increase, two tier wage payments eradicated and improved their overtime and retirement benefits. Yeah really sounds like lost lol
1
You're talking about the wrong workers, these machinists are the only reason more Boeing planes haven't fallen out of the sky
1
Which other states? Creating an aircraft factory requires over a billion dollars to get everything in place, the last one built took 5 years, you think they've got the cashflow for that?
1
No, management at Boeing shifted from being about making the best product to making the best profit
1
Christ you're really living up to your name right now
