Washington was negotiating an exit from Afghanistan and peace with the Taliban but in September Trump declared the talks to be dead and compromised those entire months of progress, citing a US casualty as the reason Additionally the idea that president's are directly responsible for casualty numbers is ridiculous and stupid. The wars fought and casualties obtained are just as dependant on the actions of your predecessor, technology of the time, the stages of these individual wars and the generals in charge. It's like saying Richard Nixon is more deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize than FDR because he had fewer casualties, there's no logic or reasoning behind it
