@babymoon5282 No it doesn't. The guy bought a place for 50k, he could have pocketed the 50k and rented for 300/m in the Azores. He could have put the remaining money to work for him. Many old people do this option, especially in Mexico the Philippines and Thailand. When you rent, you can also explore the country more and live in different cities.

@lukeatbrandynightful You are only looking at what is seen and not what is unseen. You have to remember the fact that when you buy, you are paying more capital up front that could be invested elsewhere. There are higher yielding places to park your money than a property. I would rather rant + purchase some Bitcoin or other bottoming out cryptocurrencies right now than put the same amount toward a housing investment. It may be investing in your business that generates you higher yields than real estate. Or anything else.
